ART 216 Sewn Construction
OFFERED FALL 2024 & WINTER 2025
This is an introductory sewing course that covers machine sewing and pattern fundamentals for woven and knit fabrics. Students create original garments and sewn products for fashion, costume, and contemporary art contexts.

ART 314 Sustainable Fashion Practice
OFFERED FALL 2024

This course teaches sustainable strategies for designers and product developers working in clothing and textiles. The class uses circular economy models to investigate a wide variety of approaches to designing, producing, distributing, and consuming fashion responsibly. ​

ART 313 Textile Design
OFFERED WINTER 2025
This course covers surface design processes for creating 2D textile work. Students gain exposure to a variety of hand and digital processes for designing fabric - including immersion dyeing, screen-printing, resist techniques, embroidery, and digital fabric printing.

ART 399 Textile Topics
ART 399 DIGITAL TEXTILES
OFFERED SPRING 2025
Intermediate-level topics in textile arts based on various subjects of inquiry. Focus on a specific theme, media, and/or process while engaging in assignments that develop ideation and critical thinking. Topics have included: Costume Design, Off-Loom Weaving, Wearable Art, and Clothing, Identity & Culture.

ART 219 Fashion Patternmaking
OFFERED WINTER 2025
This course uses CLO3D garment simulation software to teach flat pattern development for clothing design. Students learn 3D body scanning techniques to generate size-inclusive clothing designs that they can take into production.

ART 319 Fashion Research & Ideation
OFFERED SPRING 2025
PREREQUISITES: ART 216 or ART 219
This course focuses on responsive, size-inclusive approaches to designing clothing that blend function and aesthetics. Students identify current needs not addressed in the fashion industry and design a collection that offers a solution.

PREREQUISITES: ART 216
This course investigates the sculptural possibilities of textiles. Students learn advanced pattern development and draping techniques for applications in clothing, soft sculpture, and installation.

ART 318 Weaving: Pattern & Structure
OFFERED SPRING 2025
An introduction to the conceptual and technical aspects of weaving. Students will be introduced to hand-weaving on floor looms as a way to understand basic woven structures and methods of creating color, pattern, and texture.
